Liles Guilty and Rank Frozen for Two Years

Fort Lewis Washington UP Lt Col Paul V Liles a West Point graduate charged with collaborating with the enemy was found guilty of bringing discredit on the military service and suspended from rank for 24 months He admitted making propaganda recordings for Chinese and North Korean communists while a prisoner of war He remains on duty as a lieutenant colonel but will be skipped on promotion list for two years The court martial also noted Liles aided the enemy by making recordings deemed inimical to U S interests The defense said he accepted any sentence and the trial lasted 20 days with extensive testimony and exhibits The case drew parallels with the court martial of Maj Ambrose H Nugent at Fort Sill earlier this year with Nugent acquitted on similar charges

Arabs March On Leader's Office In Amman Riot

More than 200 demonstrators gathered outside Jordan's Prime Minister office demanding a pledge not to sign the Baghdad pact. Cloudy skies and fog slow the morning as temperatures rise into the 50s today. Forecasters expect partly cloudy skies tonight and Thursday with milder readings. Light drizzle fell in Ardmore and McAlester with little rainfall expected statewide today or tomorrow. Lawton reached 39 at 11 am after a 35 overnight low. Tuesday high was 47.

Adlai Stevenson’s Son Hurt In Fatal Crash Near Goshen

In Goshen Indiana Harvard University students were killed and others injured when a truck driven by Fred Gill crossed into the Stevenson car on U S 20 ten miles northeast of the city. John Stevenson 19 was hospitalized with a broken knee cap and injuries. Two Harvard classmates William S North III and William C Boyden Jr died. Another classmate James Gilligan 19 was injured. The car carried ski equipment and was returning home for Christmas.
