Maj. Melba Ernestine Nunn Handley 48 top-ranking Women’s Army Corps officer at Fort Sill died in a Saturday night highway crash on U S 277 near Cyril. The accident also claimed six other victims including Roscoe Mase 62 of Tulsa and Herman Darks 47 mayor of Wetumka. Handley served since 1943 with eight medals and four overseas bars. Funeral arrangements to be announced.

Fourteen year old Chat tanooga youth Chatty Boy Beavers was wounded with a .22 rifle during a hunting trip near Chattanooga. Thorough probe into Temple car fire kills oil worker
State crime bureau agents and the state fire marshal joined Cotton county officers in a thorough investigation of a Temple car fire that fatally burned Willie Wood, 40, an oil field worker and farmer. Wood died Sunday afternoon in Wichita Falls hospital from burns covering 75 percent of his body. Sheriff Bill Dyer said foul play is not ruled out, and the car is being checked. Wood was pulled from the burning auto behind a tavern owned by H. Graham. Wood’s body will be sent to Oklahoma City for examination.
