Fallout Shelter Advocates See First Victory
Washington advocates of a national fallout shelter program expect a House vote on the first step of a five year plan to provide 95 million shelter spaces with a 190.6 million bill. Rep Hebert predicts a favorable but hard sell to wrap the bill into the full committee. The measure covers only the current fiscal year ending June 30 1964 while a broader 2.1 billion plan would extend over five years with stocked shelters and supplies. Other items include AFL-CIO backing federal aid for medical schools and a three year extension of 17 million for airport aid with Proxmire opposing the plan noting concerns over subsidies.
