Bellmon Defends Eastern Turnpike Access Roads Plan
Oklahoma Governor Henry Bellmon opposed any delay in building access roads for the eastern turnpike and defended the Henryetta to McAlester toll road project with $14.8 million in access roads. He argued the bond sale should not be jeopardized and that delaying four-laning near Henryetta to Tulsa would not occur. He noted the access roads could speed the overall road program by freeing turnpike funds for other projects.
