Is DDT Killing Off Bald Eagle
The Interior Department reports traces of DDT in bald eagle tests but stops short of confirming harm. Only 3,807 eagles were counted in a January 1982 survey and 15 percent of 26 tested carried DDT. Coastal breeding declines prompt concern over mosquito control contamination of fish in the eagles diet. The department will continue researching the pesticide impact on the dwindling population.
