Fellow POW testifies on Erwin links in Korea court case

Reservists Begin Week at Fort Sill Training Camp

About 740 National Guard and Reserve members checked in at Fort Sill to start two weeks of summer training. Participants include 160 from 348th Transportation Group based in Oklahoma City with Col Rafael Stein, and 60 from 315th Logistical Command at Eldorado Arkansas under Col Jeff Sawyer. Also present are 4 officers and 12 reservists from 425th MP CID Detachment Shawnee.

Oklahoma doctor on trial for murder of wife and three children

Dr. Ben T. Galbraith, a 34 year old heart specialist, killed his wife and three children in Oklahoma. He attempted suicide in jail using glass shards and left a 3000 word crime narrative. He claimed not insane and sought transfer to Vinita hospital.

Talks on repatriation of civilians bogged down in Geneva

Truce inspection tensions flare in Korea riots

Fifteen U S soldiers and four Koreans were injured in renewed riots against UN truce inspection teams at Pusan and Taegu. The 8th Army reported six Americans treated for minor injuries and denied Korean police claims of bayoneted protesters. Protests spread to Inchon Wolmi Island, Kunsan, Kangnung, and Taegu as reinforcements were sought and police clashed with demonstrators.

Hunt Started For Sex Killer

Discovery of the nude body of Mrs. Wilma Allen a 34 year old socialite triggered a two state search for her killer in Kansas City and nearby. She was found shot twice with hands tied behind her back using a pink scarf. Police suspect a sex motive though robbery remains possible. Her rings are missing and the empty purse was found miles away. The bloodstained car was found near Union Station and questions linger about why clothing lay in the car trunk and why the purse was discarded openly. Coroner David S Long Jr. comments referenced.

Army Battles Ontario Forest Fire Worst Yet

An army of over 4,000 including volunteers fights Ontario's worst forest fires. Since first seen April 1 the blazes have consumed more than 200000 acres with 125 outbreaks. Daily reports cite 10 to 15 fires out of control as heavy rains are needed to end the destruction.

Galbraith Denied Murder Trial Delay

McAlester Oklahoma district judge W A Lackey denied defense efforts to delay the murder trial of Dr Ben T Galbraith, a heart specialist, amid a suicide attempt in custody. Jurors were ordered to begin selection immediately for the wife’s murder, with subsequent trials for the three children. Four doctors testified he could stand trial, one said he could not. The 34 year old showed bandaged wrists after slashing them in jail following the family killings and home arson on March 17.

Industrial Tourists Begin Annual Eastern Trip in City

Lawton will host the 1956 Oklahoma Development Council industrial tour kickoff with D L Wigington announcing the event. The microfiber Me teor streamliner will start escorting members on Oct 15 from Lawton to Oklahoma City and Tulsa, then to New York, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and other cities over two weeks. The trip aims to promote Oklahoma to eastern industry and potential branches. a six hour tax and labor school precedes departure.

Weather bureau forecasts potential thundershowers in southwestern Oklahoma as a weak cool front from the northwest passes Red River. Widow Is Accused of Killing Attorney

Tulsa police say widow Geraldine( Jerry) Terry, 23, is charged with stabbing attorney Bill L. Terry, 34, in their Utica Square District apartment after a quarrel. Robert D. Simms announced the murder charge as detectives took a statement from Mrs Terry.

Sill's Rocket Battery Heads to Far East From Fort Sill

Personnel of the Fifth Field Artillery rocket battery departed Fort Sill this morning by C-46 for San Francisco as the first leg toward the Far East. Two Women Try Suicide in Lawton Disturbances

Two Lawton women attempted self harm with razor blades on Sunday. One, a mother of two, cut her left wrist at a babysitter’s home after dancing at a night club. she was treated at Lawton Hospital and jailed. The other, 45, injured both wrists at Rt. 3, Lawton, first at Memorial Hospital then in Comanche County Jail for investigation.
