Navy test of global rescue subs delayed to 1974
Ten years after the Thresher disaster the Navy’s emergency rescue system remains unfinished. Two test rescue submarines at San Diego will be operational by June 1974, with a global fleet only by 1978 at the earliest, and a reduced force due to rising costs and Vietnam War pressures.
