Testing Still Fails To Uncover All Airliner Bugs
Washington reports that despite thousands of hours of pre certification testing and regular inspections, major mechanical defects have still appeared in U.S. commercial airliners since 1946. Examples include bonding tape on a DC-4 tail causing a fatal crash and fuel transfer flaws in DC-6s. Officials say even 200,000 hours of testing could not guarantee absence of all bugs, as safety and economy conflict.
