Dallas Tornado Seen by Record Viewers and Scientists
Dallas officials and Weather Bureau experts said the April 2 tornado was seen by more people than any other in history and is the best documented. Debris and even people were hurled from the funnel edge as winds reached an estimated 500 to 700 mph. Ten were killed and about 200 injured in a 21 mile path lasting over 40 minutes. Researchers cite questions about pinpointing local tornado areas and the triggering mechanism before effective control is possible.
