Monster cloud burst devastates Kansas City 1900s storm disaster
Special to Journal Kansas City May 11 a monster black cloud burst over the city plunging streets into flood and darkness. The deluge destroyed schools and factories causing many deaths including children at Lathrop school and workers at Smith and Moffat mills. Debris and bodies were pulled from ruins as rescue efforts continued and bridges and telegraph lines failed. Officials described a violent flood with wind and water overwhelm ing several blocks while scenes of heroism and mass mourning followed.

Accident Insurance Pays Off After Fall at Baldwin
Mr Will S Fugate of Lawrence bought an accident insurance ticket from agent R K Tabor for twenty five cents on February 27. He slipped at Baldwin station on the Southern Kansas railway, was injured and out nine weeks. He received 190.98 indemnity from Travelers Insurance via agent C W Goat. Tickets cost 35 per day and insure 8000 in death and 15 per week for loss of time.
