County Democracy Holds Open Convention for Delegates
At 11 o'clock yesterday John Watts chaired the County Central committee as the County Democracy convened to elect eight delegates to the State convention at Leavenworth and eighteen to the Congressional convention at Paola. The session adopted a temporary organization with Jos. A. Montgomery as chairman and John Sullivan as secretary, then set committees on credentials, resolutions, and permanent organization. Debate over how delegates should be chosen sparked between Emery Riggs and supporters of open nomination, leading to a compromise committee structure. The final report listed delegates for Leavenworth and Paola, with strong party sentiment on gubernatorial candidate support foreshadowed by a resolution favoring Geo. Innes for governor. The Leavenworth delegation is expected to proceed with its decisions next Wednesday morning.
