About half the funds come from the Wildlife Foundation with the rest from matching sources including Monsanto donations.
After a century on the move the first Lawrence school bell has a settled home. The 1600 pound church bell now rests in a refurbished case at Lawrence High School, ending journeys that included a voyage to the ocean floor. Once housed in the basement of the Unitarian Church near Ninth and Ohio streets, the bell’s relocation preserves a historic artifact and ties to the city’s early education.
Blue ribbon brew Free State Brewing Co. captured top honors in the Great American Beer Festival Herb and Spice Beer category. The win crowns the Kansas brewery for a standout entry and adds to its growing accolades.
