Would-be bomber breaches Green Zone in Baghdad
A car bomber penetrated Baghdad's Green Zone but was stopped at an internal checkpoint by U S Marines. The vehicle was destroyed and the bomber detained with no deaths or injuries. The breach prompted security concerns for the embassy and transitional government complex. In separate attacks, 22 Iraqi men were found shot in Kut, and a U S Marine died from a prior bombing in Khalidiyah. An attack on police recruits in Baqubah killed at least 10 and wounded 28.
