Lawrence Bank to Become Great American Bank in Name Change
Lawrence Bank will adopt the Great American Bank name as assets merge with De Soto based Great American Bank. The change takes effect September 30 with Les Dreiling, former Lawrence Bank president, becoming president of the combined entity. Headquarters stay in Lawrence and most shareholders remain residents. Dreiling cites expansion ease as the reason for the rebrand.

Lawrence man pleads guilty to raping a child
Lawrence resident Fred Eugene White Jr., 22, admitted one count of a reported incident of a child under 14 after a plea agreement. He had faced five counts and an aggravated sodomy charge tied to alleged daily sexual acts from Aug 5 to Aug 9. The state dismissed the other charges. The two were described as known to each other in a brief, weeks-long relationship.

Lawrence man pleads guilty to embezzling from Pur-O-Zone
A 55 year old Lawrence businessman admitted embezzling about 1 million dollars from his janitorial equipment company Pur-O-Zone and partners over ten years. Mark Elzea, the controller, said he began the scheme in 2004 and wasn’t caught until May 2014, per U S Attorney records.
