Juvenile prosecutor rises from indigent panel to Douglas County role
Houston native Chris Kenney became an assistant district attorney in Douglas County largely by chance. Selected for the indigent juvenile defense panel this year, she then filled a vacancy after Margaret Pemberton left for private practice. Kenney credits fair, forthright colleagues and daily work with emotionally charged cases for her rapid placement and says she may stay only a few years.

Lawrence Library seeks federal funds for basement remodel
The Lawrence Public Library plans a 8000 square foot basement remodel to add 50 000 to 60 000 volumes and reading areas and will apply for $194 000 in Library Services and Construction Act funds with a $228 850 local share. City will commit $55 000 in 1990. Project could begin fall 1990 and open February 1991 if approved. Wayne Mayo notes growth and space shortage amid a 5 000 volume yearly increase.
