Global protests target fracking around the world
Demonstrators in the United States and other nations protested against hydraulic fracturing on Global Frackdown day. Organizers highlighted larger turnouts in California, Colorado, New York, and in South Africa and France, urging a switch to renewable energy and warnings about water and air safety. Protests in Pittsburgh and Buffalo pressed for a moratorium and a ban, while Ohio faced seismic tests and linked wastewater injection wells to earthquakes.
