Regents seek smaller funding boost for KU projects

Kansas Board of Regents members urged trimming a proposed state funding increase for higher education as they prep a recommendation for Gov. Sam Brownback. KU seeks 5 million annually to help build a 78 million medical education facility, citing space shortages that caused 100 qualified applicants to be denied. The project will also rely on private funds, tuition and retiring a 30-year bond.

Lawrence doctor to bike 100 miles for dialysis fund

Lawrence physician Dr Scott Soldier and Stan Langhofer plan a 100 mile Tour de Dialysis ride September 30 from Ottawa to Topeka with a stop in Lawrence to raise funds for low income dialysis patients. The effort supports transportation, food, clothing, medicine and rent for more than 350 patients served by Kansas Dialysis Services including about 70 in Lawrence.
