Murder trial opens in disabled man's death case
The first degree murder trial of 49 year old Ronald Eugene Heskett of Eudora began after an all female jury was selected. Prosecutor Eve Kemple says Heskett suffocated Vance Moulton at his Prairie Ridge Place home for money. Heskett’s lawyer argues it was an assisted death by his own action. Moulton, 65, had cerebral palsy and limited mobility. Douglas County Coroner Erik Mitchell testified the death was homicide by asphyxiation. Evidence showed Moulton with a towel around his neck and a rug burn under his chin. Moulton also had bladder irritation and kidney infection from cerebral palsy symptoms.
