Sears Relocates to Hillcrest Shopping Center

The Lawrence Sears Catalog Store at 13 E 9th St closed today and moves to Hillcrest Shopping Center at 9th and Iowa. A ribbon cutting is set for 9 AM Thursday with a relocation sale announced by Manager Bill Emick.

Gambles Store Plans Opening

Gambles Furniture and Carpet Center at 930 Mass. St. will open Thursday with Gambles officials present. The 14,000 square foot store is the first of its type in the Gamble organization and one of six planned nationwide this year. Vernon Boyer will manage, assisted by Max McCartney, as the store features room like settings and a broad furniture carpet and accessories selection. Gambles officials from Minneapolis Freemont Monmouth and Salina will attend the opening.

Four Thousand High Schoolers to Attend KU Science Day

About 4 000 high school students from Kansas and western Missouri are expected to attend Science Mathematics and Engineering Day on Saturday Oct 2 at Kansas University. Edward Shaw KU associate professor and event chairman said the day aims to acquaint youth with facts of life about science and introduce study opportunities at KU. Counselors will outline employment prospects for graduates with science degrees.
