Memorial Day stabbing goes to trial
A 33 year old Oska loosa man is bound over for trial on second degree murder and felony theft in the Memorial Day stabbing death of Tracy Dean Lautenschlager, 45, of Lawrence. Prosecutors say Joshua Lee Back killed Lautenschlager and stole a 1992 GMC Sienna truck from Sue Radcliffe. Police believe the stabbing occurred at a home on 700 Arkansas St. in Douglas County.

Man to face trial in child abuse case in Lawrence
William Joseph Ellis Jr., 39, of Lawrence, will stand trial on two counts of child abuse in the reported incident. He waived a preliminary hearing, and the judge bound him over for trial. Police say the victims, under 10, were allegedly fondled repeatedly at a day care in the Ellis trailer on Delaware Street. One girl described incidents as occurring “a lot of times.” Angela Ellis, his wife, was reportedly present during the most recent incident. Ellis was arrested July 25.
