Vasari painting reattributed after six month study
Susan Earle and Cornelison argue the painting “Christ Carrying the Cross” is by Vasari workshop, not Vasari himself. Restorations at Nelson-Atkins clarified the attribution, revealing Vasari’s hand. The work links to Ersilia Cortese and Borghini, with the two altarpieces entwined in history until KU bought Cross in 1953.
