The well cap pours tomorrow and a automatic pumping system will move water into the sewer. Work on laying tile conduits for cables progresses on Massachusetts street as the new white way system nears completion. The circuit to Eighth street should be ready for electrical installations by September 10, with curb and gutter finished from Eleventh to Eighth streets and sidewalks to follow. The project employs 70 workers under WPA, uses government supplied electrical equipment, and will upgrade lighting with 545 watt globes on corners and 340 watt globes between, replacing the obsolete parallel cable system. Manhattan Kansas September 7 a state wide survey by college extension and agronomy men disclosed a 1936 drought caused a shortage of corn and sorghum seed among Kansas farmers. Throckmorton said sorghum seed is more critical than seed corn and that the state could provide its own seed corn next season if existing supplies are kept in state. Sweet sorghum seeds for silage are especially lacking.
