Memorial services for Allen Fender, 66, of Lawrence, announced by Warren McEil Mortuary in 2011, will be held at his home.
Graveside service for Richard Mac William McCasland 88 of Lawrence will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday. He died Tuesday August 30 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Elizabeth Lurlene Ellsworth 83 of Lawrence died Friday September 2, 2011 at her home. No services will be held.
Don Preston Fambrough 88 of Lawrence died Saturday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. A service will be held at 1 pm Friday at First Christian Church Lawrence with private inurnment at Pioneer Cemetery. He was KU football head coach 1971-74 and 1979-82, and later worked for the Williams Education Fund and Senator Bob Dole. He played for KU as captain of the 1947 Orange Bowl team and earned All-Big Six honors in 1946 and 1947. He married Del Few in 1941. she died in 2001. Survivors include sons Bob and Preston Fambrough and four grandchildren. Memorials suggested to Lawrence Schools Foundation or Douglas County Visiting Nurses. Warren-McElwain Mortuary handled arrangements.
Two brothers, Jackson and Jordan Barth, expanded their recycling venture 2 Kids and a Mom Recycling from six to about 15 customers in Baldwin City. They now collect seven plastics along with aluminum, tin, paper, and cardboard, with pickups on Thursdays in summer and Sundays during the school year. The business charges 10 dollars a month or 15 dollars for months with three pickups. They donate monthly to causes such as St. Jude and the National Wildlife Fund while saving for college, and Jackson now communicates with customers by email.
Kohler Foundation purchased the Garden of Eden in Lucas Kansas earlier this year to restore the Dinsmoor sculpture garden. Conservators from Kohler and area volunteers work through summer heat to clean mold fill cracks stabilize larger pieces and mix native sandstone to restore original color. The display case housing Dinsmoor and his concrete coffin will be checked for moisture and preserved. Restoration aims for completion by early October with ongoing ownership by a nonprofit group Friends of S P Dinsmoor's Garden of Eden and local volunteers to maintain the site.
