Rain Helped Contain Major Western Wildfires
Wildfire crews gained progress across the northern Rockies as rain and some snow slowed fires. In Montana the 20,000 acre Flathead Reservation blaze saw lines paused due to slippery rock and mud while dozens of others burned across 27 fires on 662,686 acres. A Red Lodge blaze nearest evacuation zones was expected to be fully contained by Wednesday. A Mississippi firefighter died from injuries suffered August 20, with eight others killed nationwide this year.
