Video tape destroyed in Alps ski lift crash probe
Marine aboard the jet that killed 20 in the Italian gondola mishap helped prosecutors charge pilot Captain Richard Ashby and navigator Captain Joseph Schweitzer with obstruction of justice and conspiracy. The charges follow reports that a personal videotape of the Feb. 3 accident was made aboard the SA-6B Prowler during a training mission over the Alps. All 20 aboard the gondola perished when the jet clipped the lift cable.

Nationwide settles discrimination suit in housing insurance case
A judge approves a 5.3 million settlement in a suit accusing Nationwide Insurance Co. of steering homeowners in minority neighborhoods away from insurance sales. The Toledo Fair Housing Center and homeowners filed the case in 1993, alleging practices like not returning calls to deter black-area homeowners from buying insurance. Nationwide denies discrimination but backs the settlement to avoid a lengthy fight. Separately, Allen Drury, Pulitzer Prize winning author of Advise and Consent, died on his 60th birthday, from heart failure in Tiburon.
