Acorn abundance scatters deer in Missouri’s Ozarks
Missouri Department of Conservation notes a bumper acorn crop will spread white tailed deer across the Ozarks during the firearms season Nov 12 22. Hunters in 29 counties will see more mature bucks due to last year’s antler restriction, but overall statewide deer numbers stay around one million with regional shifts. Lonnie Hansen cites abundant acorns driving deer dispersion and reduced harvest in oak-rich areas while northern Missouri relies more on crops. Affected counties include Adair Andrew Atchison Boone Chariton Cole Daviess DeKalb Franklin Gasconade Gentry Grundy Harrison Holt Howard Linn Livingston Macon Maries Miller Mercer Nodaway Osage Pulaski Putnam Randolph Schuyler Sullivan Worth.
