Federal Judge denies injunction to stop C F Rontzahn from making public the income tax returns of Cleveland industries. Judge Westernhayer rules no personal privacy right in such records though reporters sought access. Rontzahm declines to reveal records citing potential jeopardy to his bond.
The high school auditorium hosted the first orchestral gathering of the year with over twenty students auditioning. Director Conrad McCrew, formerly of Lawrence High and now at Fing Arth school, urged any student skilled with an orchestral instrument to try out. Alfred Johnson, the Linwood State Bank bandit who robbed the Linwood bank of about 363 dollars, killed Deputy Sheriff Glenn Curtis in a hand to hand encounter east of Linwood. A 17 year old woman, claimed wife of Johnson, is under questioning. no trace of Johnson was found as a posse scoured thick woods northeast of Linwood. Curtis died at Swedish Hospital in Kansas City after being shot in the left side near the shoulder. A large posse, including Linwood residents and Leavenworth officers, searched the area while the woman and two cars were traced. a Ford and a burned Chevrolet were noted in connection with the getaway.
Robbers stole a steel safe from the Citizens State Bank of Atlanta located 26 miles northeast of Winter. About $2.0 thousand notes were inside, totaling roughly $1,540. An Aman sleeping in a restaurant heard noises, but alarm failed to prevent the escape. thieves vanished with the heavy safe.
