Volunteers tackle Make A Difference Day projects in Lawrence
More than 70 volunteers from Kansas University students, families, and community groups joined nine projects at Lawrence schools and nonprofits. They shampooed dogs at the Lawrence Human Society, cleaned campuses at New York, Schwegler and Hillcrest, and landscaped the Willow Domestic Violence Center while the Douglas County AIDS Project packed offices for a move. The effort, part of a national day organized by The United Way Roger Hill Volunteer Center, drew fewer volunteers than usual due to homecoming events.
