NBA fines Timberwolves $3.5 million for secret salary pact
NBA commissioner David Stern fined the Minnesota Timberwolves 3.5 million dollars and voided Joe Smiths contracts after finding a secret agreement guaranteeing a lucrative long term deal. The penalty, among the stiffest in league history, also stripped Smith of Bird rights, while possible suspensions for owner Glen Taylor and GM Kevin McHale remain undecided.
