DST Systems Inc a Kansas City financial services firm negotiates to buy Sallie Maes loan servicing center in Lawrence a move that would provide job offers to about 300 employees the deal may reshape local employment and business ties.

Educators launch a major study at East Heights Elementary, a traditionally low-performing east-side school at 1430 Haskell Ave. Dan Neuenswander, former Lawrence superintendent, will lead the review. He will meet with parents, students, teachers, and admins, study testing data and survey results, and later propose recommendations to the school board to determine needed resources and changes.
Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department begins administering vaccines to high risk groups immediately. Doses allocated include 7,000 with focus on those 65 and older, immunocompromised individuals, pregnant women beyond three months, and households or health care workers. Shots available 8:30 am to 7 pm at the health department.
