Irish born playwright Samuel Beckett, 63, living in France, wins the 1969 Nobel Prize for literature worth 72 800 dollars. Noted for Waiting for Godot and Endgame, Beckett writes in English and French and is seen as a leading modernist despite controversy.
Kansas City AP William McChesney Martin Jr. says long term inflation control matters more than Vietnam War.
