A mechanical mole working on Sixth Street jams its main cleaner after traveling three blocks. Crews assess the valve blockage and prepare repairs as traffic slows. No injuries reported. City officials monitor the unusual digging machine’s progress and safety precautions.
A mechanical mole cleaner worked through the 2 inch main on Indiana street but halted at Sixth street by an old valve, causing a black flood at Eighth and Indiana streets. George O. Nelson of the National Main Cleaning association said delays are common as older valves and incomplete blueprints hinder progress, with work continuing to start fresh from the Sixth street point.
The State Public Utilities Commission grants a further postponement of the obstruction of a by the old bridge fill hearing. The new date is November 17 at city hall, replacing the original October date and the later November 3 reschedule. County officials requested the delay due to district court and county commissioners sessions opening on November 3.
Reno Community club will host a meeting Thursday evening to discuss a proposed rural high school for Reno. Superintendent R A Kent of Lawrence schools will speak in support. Residents expect high turnout and a lively session for the plan.

A man arrested Saturday for allegedly selling cigarettes appeared in police court Monday and pled not guilty. He was released this morning for lack of evidence. Clarence Wilson, proprietor of Swede's pool hall at 731 Mass. street, was named in the proceedings.
Kansas forecast shows warmer conditions in eastern and southern portions on Thursday with cloudiness and colder air in the west and north. Much colder Thursday night. Temperatures ranged from a high of 2 yesterday to a low of -40 today, with 7 PM yesterday and 2 PM today times noted.
Washington Oct 22 four revised reservations to the peace treaty were adopted by the Senate foreign relations committee with administration leaders voting solidly against them The committee also approved a preamble linking the reservations to allied powers approval and not until three major powers concur The reservations covered Article X the Monroe Doctrine withdrawal and domestic questions The vote on most roll calls was party line with a few dissenters including Senator Shields The Article X reservation mirrored Wilsons position though with wording shift It marked McCumbers first steady push with Republicans claiming broad GOP support for the reservations

A Kansas City paper reports that the Merchants National Bank clock in Lawrence will not adjust with others after daylight saving ends. The bank tower clock stops working properly, showing ten o clock all week as its mechanism was damaged. a clock expert removed its gears, leaving it still warning the town with altered time until repairs restore correct movement.
Kansas livestock officials warn heavy cattle shipments to southern grazed lands and the Panhandle may raise beef prices later. State livestock commissioner Joe Mercer says moving cattle to cheaper feed regions depletes feed yards and could create a beef shortage and higher prices as production drops. A new plan with railroads aims to distribute shipments to prevent congestion, though recent Mondays saw heavier receipts.
George Brune county clerk reported today that Minnie Walter, aged eighty four, mother of S K E Brune, suffered a second parasitic stroke at her son’s home in Portland Oregon. Once an early Douglas County settler she had lived there since 1846 until three years ago. The family fears she may not survive.
Washington October 22 Organized labor delegates in the national industrial conference read President Wilson’s letter from his sick bed urging continued unity. He warned that failure to cooperate could produce a national disaster. The labor group pledged to seek recognition of workers’ right to bargain collectively, making continued participation depend on favorable action.
President Wilson signed several bulls recently passed by congress, Secretary Tumulty announced. The bulletin notes his illness and reports improved digestion and stable vitals after a night described as among the best since his illness began.

Lawrence hopes to join a Kansas National Guard reorganization by forming artillery units. Ormand W. Leavel University sophomore from Leavenworth reported a Buick with special wheels taken from 805 Kentucky last night. The car reappeared this morning in the same spot with little gasoline used, and then stalled after a short distance. Police later recovered it on the same street, suggesting joy riders used the fuel.
Oklahoma City Tulsa and Wichita submitted rival claims for a Kansas City federal reserve branch to the federal board. A decision is unlikely for several weeks.
