Plane crash kills Kansas City man near Lawrence
Merle R. Harvey a 41 year old Kansas City welder and member of the Independence flying club was killed when his Taylor Craft plane crashed in a corn field on the Elmer Allenbernd farm seven miles east of Lawrence soon after 11 this morning. Coroner Rumsey and Sheriff Skinner were at the scene. The crash, about 300 yards from Highway 10, appeared to be caused by poor visibility. A full Civil Aeronautics Administration investigation will follow. Harvey had left Kansas City airport at 9:30 aiming to pick up relatives in Newton for a visit to Topeka with his mother Lorena Harvey.
