September Rain Brings Good Moisture to Kansas

September proved a good rain month in Kansas with rainfall nearing combined July and August in total. Most counties, aside from small south central and southwestern areas, saw above normal precipitation and the soil remained well moistened as the month closed.

The Rev. Wesley Robbins is reappointed as pastor for another year at Valley Chapel. Mrs. Mary Varnum of Lawrence visited her niece Mrs. W J Curtis and attended the High Prairie church homecoming. Several families from Bonner Springs and Num ber Six joined relatives for Sunday gatherings. The Ladies Aid plans a quilting meeting with Mrs. Marvin Bond on Thursday October 17. Paschel dairy completes the last alfalfa hay cutting.

Mr and Mrs Neal Banks and William joined dinner with Mr and Mrs John Banks and Dr and Mrs Keith of Lawrence. County rock crusher worked on drives to Charlie Sanders farm and John Dunn's place. Mrs James Cummings and Mrs Grayce of Kansas City and Mrs Minnie Darnold Ewers visiting from California called at Thome, Dunn, and Banks homes. Photos taken at Mary Thome home and N F Thome home. Mr and Mrs Howard Longa necker of near Midland visited Dunn two weeks ago Tuesday. John Dunn and Pete Goff attended community sale in Lawrence a week ago AREA. Curtis attended Raymond Oehrle sale near Worden last Tuesday. Curtis dinner guests of Leonard Deay and Billy in Lawrence Sunday. Curtis were guests with Porter Bond and Wave Joe at McNees. Maurice Knott spent Saturday evening with John Banks. Hugo Schellhorn and Mrs Mary Martin visited Sunday. Mr and Mrs Marvin Bond hosted birthday dinner for Allen with Marion Tuttle of Lawrence, Ellis Bond, Roy Puckett and family, Donald and Della Bond. A new Silver Streak is coming.
