Cracks in Kansas mental health care blamed for treated deaths
Michael Rutz spoke in anger and sadness after his son Daniel, 28, died amid a cycle of hospital stays and brief outpatient care. Daniel battled ADHD, bipolar disorder, major depression and anxiety and relied on prescription drugs to cope. He visited Osawatomie and Larned State Hospitals multiple times in two years before dying on Sept. 24. Advocates say long term care is lacking and many families face similar struggles with the system.
