Reports say Soviet Russia mobilized 10 to 12 divisions along the Romanian frontier with 150000 to 180000 men. Germany strengthens Romania as Turkey and Bulgaria face pressure over alignment with the axis and oil fields along the Danube.
Mrs. Mary Dunden, currently night superintendent at Bell Memorial and University hospital in Kansas City Kansas, will replace Miss Maude Landis as superintendent at Lawrence Memorial Hospital starting November 15. Landis will stay on briefly to ease the transition. Dunden, a Minnesota School of Nursing graduate who served as a nurse in France in World War I, has two children and comes highly recommended by KU medical faculty and University hospital nursing director Henrietta Froehlke.
Moscow reports Tass denied a Danish dispatch claiming the Kremlin was informed in advance of Germany’s troop move to Romania. The Danish Politiken report was said not to correspond with facts and no Russian reaction had appeared before October 15.
Washington October 15 the Senate unanimously confirmed Dr Clarence A Dykstra as director of selective service to lead the draft program. He will receive 10000 a year and may appoint staff. The appointment follows his move from the University of Wisconsin presidency to the post.

German raiders attacked London again in six raids using up to 350 planes. British fighters repelled the waves while long range guns fired on the Dover strait. By noon eight German planes were shot down and casualties were heavier in London and suburbs.

Rome reports Italian air squadrons attacked a British convoy rushing troops to Egypt. A cruiser was struck by a torpedo and a transport by a heavy bomb, with other ships damaged. The attack targeted the same naval group involved in a prior Malta battle, where Italians claimed the sinking of a cruiser and damage to another cruiser and an aircraft carrier, while losing a destroyer and two torpedo boats.
Topeka reports about 16 400 volunteer election workers veterans and patriotic citizens prepared to staff enrollment sites for registration day across 2 734 precincts. Booths run 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. with no pay.
After a elders council the Florida Seminole Indians still technically at war with the United States agreed to register for national conscription. About 65 youths had previously announced they would hide in the Florida everglades to avoid the draft. Government agents will visit each Indian village and stockade to enforce registrations.
Senator Hiram Johnson of California announced he will speak against a Roosevelt third term at 9 p m Friday on a nationwide radio hookup arranged by the Republican national committee.
