A British steamer Mohegan, formerly Cleopatra, carrying 50 passengers and 150 crew, ran aground near the Lizard after a gale. Lifeboats were launched. many perished or were saved with reports of 31 lives lost, survivors scattered to Port Hooduck and Cornwall. Among the saved are Miss Noble and Mrs Higgett. missing include O Crane, wife of Stephen Crane. Maud Rounds, American soprano, reports her mother dead after shipwreck.
