In St Louis this afternoon Judge Adams granted a temporary injunction on Wm 8 Helf State Superintendent of Insurance against the Life Association of America restraining it from further business Gen D M Frost was appointed temporary Receiver and filed his bond taking possession of the offices. Argument on perpetual injunction scheduled for Friday. Superintendent Reif states the company is insolvent liabilities exceed assets by a large sum.
October 14 Lunis reports a new iron snag boat named the John R. Meigs, built for the government by the Western Iron Boat Building Company. Trial runs show a flat bow that extends nearly to the waterline, promising effective service against river snags and obstructions.
Globe-Democrat reports two men named Stevens and Campbell were arrested at Holden Missouri on suspicion of robbing the Chicago and Alton express messenger at Glendale last Wednesday night. They were shadowed by detectives, jailed in Kansas City, and local authorities believe the gang operates from Jackson and nearby counties within fifteen miles of Glendale.

Kansas City reports a higher market for wheat with receipts of 34 718 bushels and in store stock at 371 149 bushels. No 2 cash bid 1 094 cents, No 3 1 05 to 1 67, No 4 1 033 to 1 05. Corn receipts 6 164 bushels, shipment 2 192, in store 21 874, No 2 mixed bid 26 cents. Oats No 2 bid 26 cents, ask 30. Rye No 2 bid 67 cents. Barley nominal.
Market notes show eggs steady at about 12 cents per dozen for candied variety with prices given. Butter remains scarce and firm with large stock sellers at Gabe, while medium butter sells through at typical rates amid tight supply.
Flour prices show a demand surge with premiums around 5.65 to 5.75 per unit and extra fine Louis at 5.75. Wheat markets are unsettled with No. 8 spring and winter varieties cited plus rye and barley steady. Corn and oats show active demand, with No. 2 corn around 66 cents and mixed western oats near 89 to 95 cents.
