The county surveyor J Stenxncne reports the bridge over the river is complete with strong joints and solid woodwork. The Board votes to accept the bridge at once, declaring it a lasting monument to the builders and the county’s judgment. Lawrence, Oct 13, 1579.
County Surveyor Sternhersh presents to Douglas County Board a detailed report on the Sigel iron bridge designed by C E H Campbell of Raymond & Campbell. The 126 foot span, 16 foot roadway, 18 foot height, carries 1280 pounds per local foot plus its 450 pounds per foot dead load, totaling 1840 pounds per foot. Material is first quality, with some bottant chords exceeding contract area, deemed in the county's favor. Workmanship is noted as highly satisfactory.

New York markets opened with gains of about one quarter to half a percent in early trading led by Union Pacific and Atlantic & Pacific Telegraph. A broad selling wave pushed coal shares down sharply before recovering, while government bonds were dull and overall stock measures turned positive late in the session.
Prices for flour wheat corn butter eggs and meats show firmer tones with mixed demand. Flour near 5.38 to 5.85 per unit, No 2 red wheat cash 1.22 to 1.23, corn slower but steady, butter and eggs steady to higher, dry salt meats firm at 3.75 to 7.00, bacon up and lard at 6.15 asked, whisky quiet at 1.07.
The St Louis market shows fairly active trading with mixed packing at 3.33 to 3.55, Yorkers and Baltimore at 4.00 to 3.54, butchers at 3.45 to 3.65. Receipts are uncertain and shipments total 300 head.
In Unicaco on October 14 flour shows good demand at fall prices. Wheat stays active, firm, and higher with cash and contract quotes across No. red and No. 2 spring, while corn runs active and firm with varied futures and cash bids.
CATTLE dull with some Friday leftovers. western and shade lower but fair demand. Texans $4.00. HOGS very weak early, firmer later. heavy hogs $3.50 to $3.80. SHEEP quiet and easy, lower. Kansas City reports WHEAT firm with No. 2 at 1.06 1/4 cash. CORN 30 bid for No. 2 mix. OATS No. 2 24 cents bid. Egg market steady. BUTTER scarce at 16 17 cents.
CATTLE market weaker with native shippers and feeders active. prices range from 2.15 to 4.25 for various classes. receipts 1,408, shipments 519. HOGS weaker with prices 3.20 to 3.25 and bulk near 3.20. receipts 317, shipments 220. SHEEP quiet. receipts 1,284, shipments 365.
