At the weekly luncheon in Weidemanns RC Rankin chair of the Lawrence Memorial Hospital board outlined cramped and unsatisfactory quarters and the need for better living and working space. Miss Madge Bullene presented statistics on hospital use and service to Lawrence residents while A Weaver recalled the hospital’s early history and donations enabling its efficiency. Gifts totaling 5000 from Mrs A I Pees and 600 from D A Mole were noted with a mass meeting planned for Sunday at 3 in the Bow ert with Prof Freder Will to speak on Abdication of Democracy.

Douglas County 1924 Tax Rolls Turned Over for Collection

The 1924 Douglas county tax rolls totaling $1,195,282 for county collection were handed to the mountwg treasurer. Total valuations show county property at $7,915,787 with township and city valuations at $28,482,498 and $19,433,089 respectively. City taxes itemized include General fund $50,517.01 and street improvements $15,566.04 among others. Township and city collections for various funds total $182,164.99. school tax amounts reach $409,435.19 across township and state allocations.

The earliest World Series baseballs pitched by Walter Johnson were seen in a Carls window. The balls were graphed by Johnson Zachary and Ruel. P K Smith of Lawrence, a friend of Johnson, was in Washington for the series and sent the balls to Carls for safekeeping.
