The Meade Post 14 G A R hosted a reunion for veterans from Rica and nearby counties in Sterling on Oct 12. A strong wind disrupted plans, Ingalls and Corbitt did not attend, General Anderson and the Topeka Modocs spoke, as attendees shared army baked beans and memories at the opera house before a heavy afternoon rain.
Indianapolis reports a large gang of counterfeiters arrested in Tipton last night and brought to the city today. Officials note informant Hobbs helped expose the gang, with several Masters, Shope, Johnson, Smith, Wright, King, Small, Haworth, and others among the detainees. Campbell Gerpes ter Crull and saloon keeper Keating were also arrested en route to Logansport. Most suspects are Tipton County residents.

Boston Democrats named Mayor Levering of Lynn for Congress in the Sixth District and Leopold Marge for the Fifth District. The Washington Territory Democratic Convention in Portland also nominated Judge Thomas Burke for Congress.
The Mexican National Railroad Company reconstructed their Rio Grande bridge at Laredo yesterday restoring rail links between the republics after flood damage. The bridge has twenty spans, each thirty feet long. The International and Great Northern Railway began rebuilding their swept bridge.
