John D Perky Dies in Car Crash on Cutler Ridge

A 30 year old, James D Perky, of Cutler Ridge, died in a vehicle collision. Police report indicates the accident occurred near the Ridge area with responders arriving at the scene. Further details were not immediately available.

Lawrence Youth Held for Hit and Run

A 16 year old Lawrence youth Donald Lee Ragan of Route 3 is held in Leavenworth county jail on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident after a hit and run on a farm road Wednesday night. The sheriff’s office filed the charge against him.

Woman sentenced to electric chair for six murders in Alabama

A 50 year old waitress described as plump died in the electric chair after killing six people including three daughters her mother and two husbands with rat poison. She left a note asking her body be given to a medical institution and seeking understanding of her crimes. Ronald Martin survived the poisoning but Martin was the condemned killer's son. The execution occurred at Kilby Prison after a 2 07 am strap in and 2200 volt procedure.

Topeka Man Killed in One Car Wreck West of Lawrence

A Topeka man Henry Mollett was killed in a two o'clock one car crash three and a half miles west of Lawrence on U.S. Highway 40. His son Jochem Mollett was admitted to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Freak Morgan of Topeka was released after treatment. The wooden station wagon went off the road while passing another westbound car and tore apart as it rolled. The incident marks the fifth in Douglas County this year.

Gunmen Rob Post Office Slay Man In Paisley Oregon

In Paisley Oregon gunmen robbed the local post office killing a 61 year old man who intervened. A woman was pistol whipped and a car fled before a posse of about 150 riflemen pursued them through slushy prairie. One gunman was later shot and detained. another suspect Donald Ferguson, 32, from Bakersfield California, was hospitalized with guarded status. Lawson, a plumber, was killed at the post office door. The postmaster Anita Bannister said only a small amount of money and some blank money orders were taken.

Pike staff doubles safety and speed efforts during heavy football traffic

Police report doubled safety emphasis for football crowds with 14 troopers checking speeds and congestion. An overhead aircraft with radio and a similar plan on the Turnpike to Kansas City aims to manage the heaviest Labor Day traffic since the holiday start. Maj. Lawrence Man Dies In Collision Near Lawrence

A Lawrence man Samuel T. Crawford 35 of 421 Ohio Street died in a collision on K-32 at Edwardsville with a Kansas Highway Department pickup. Ronald Lee Cook 18 of Clay Center also died. injured were Richard Beems 23 of Grantville and D. W. Conner Jr. 37 of Overland Park. Crawford, longtime highway employee, survived by wife Imogene and three children. Bodies were sent to Butler Funeral Home in Kansas City Kansas with arrangements pending. Columbus Day holiday noted with bank closures.

Purse Found Near Tonganoxie Linked to 1930s Robbery

In Leavenworth County rural area a boy discovered a purse near Tonganoxie tied to a summer beating of Mrs Frances Leckron welfare director. The purse held a check to Mrs Leckron and linked to a July 6 incident on K 12 west of Bonner Springs where she was robbed as her car was stolen and later abandoned. No arrest was made at the time.
