In Washington on October 11, Undersecretary of the Navy Ralph A. Bard warned that Japan is delaying for time hoping a war weary America will accept a peace compromise. He cautioned that any settlement short of a total knockout would betray the armed forces and invite another war for their descendants. Also noted was the election of Rev Charles A Hawley Atchison as moderator of the Kansas synod, succeeding Rev Theodore H Astman Lawrence. Puerto Rico density reported at 547 persons per square mile.
