Woman Improves After Operation In Vinland Shooting
Mrs Fern Eckman 24 was seriously wounded at her Vinland home by George Hartman 40. Hartman admitted shooting the woman saying jealousy and other troubles led to the attack. one of three shots hit Eckman in the waist. At Memorial hospital she showed slight improvement after surgery and a blood transfusion. Hartman was jailed in Douglas County and said he drank for a week prior and was intoxicated when he fired. No charge filed yet but murder possible if Eckman dies. Eckman previously worked as a beauty operator at the Palace in Lawrence and has recently lived with her mother in Vinland. Hartman said he knew Eckman since childhood and had worked for her family.

Robbery Suspects Apprehended After Bank Heist
In Neosho Missouri four men named George Jones Jim Beng Charles Swepton and Albert Hall were arrested in the Tripoli mine pit after the First National Bank of Springdale Arkansas was robbed of 85180 last Wednesday. A fifth man escaped. Authorities found two shotguns two high power rifles and five pistols in the suspects’ car. The Springdale robbery involved three men who fled into a wooded area near Tahlequah Oklahoma after abandoning a stolen car and part of the loot. Beng is identified as an Indian.
