Tractors Damaged by Fire Near Lawrence
Tractors owned by Wilford Ousdah and Robert Laptad on Route 3 were damaged by fire while pulling corn pickers northwest of Lawrence Saturday afternoon. Ousdah’s tractor burst into flames at 4 p.m. and Laptad’s at 5 p.m. Fire was extinguished by bystanders with sand and dirt. The magneto generator starter radiator and wiring on both machines were damaged and origin of the fires could not be determined. Washington forecast cotton crop at 8,724,000 bales for this year, down from prior forecasts and well below the 12,553,000 bale long term average.

Two Die When United Liner Crashes Near Cheyenne
A United Air Lines four engine main liner carrying 46 aboard from San Francisco to Chicago crashed on Fort Warren near Cheyenne Wyoming early today. Trash Boxes Used In Rally Bonfire At South Fork
Downtown business trash containers were used to fuel a mammoth bonfire at the South Fork rally last Friday night staged by K Uy students. Health Officer Dr. J. M. Mott told the city council the new trash collection system is hampered by a shortage of containers in the business district. He noted many firms lack bins forcing papers and cartons into alleys, delaying pickups. The city plans to continue business area trash pickups through October funded by the Lawrence Merchants Bureau, with Vernon King’s contract to expire January 1, 1947. Council praised cleanup progress, and steering toward 50 new containers for Massachusetts Street.
