First nonstop Pacific flight lands in Wenatchee
Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon Jr. completed the first nonstop flight from Japan to the United States. They landed in Wenatchee, Washington, after flying about 4,153 miles in 13 hours 13 minutes with the plane damaged upon touch down. A Tokyo newspaper offered a $25,000 prize for the feat.

Hold-up in Coffey County Car Theft Tied to Iola Burlington Trio
Early Sunday a model 1930 Chevrolet with a Coffey County plate was used in a holdup at a filling station on highways 40 and 73 W north of tan. Three suspects, two men and a woman, stole $6, nine gallons of gas and a gun after forcing M W Elliott into the car. They fled south, leaving Elliott two miles from the station to report the crime, then disappeared. Authorities later learned the trio had stolen a car in Iola and left it in Burlington, with Burlington police alerting Kansas City while Lawrence officers were not notified. One man described as slender, sandy-haired, about 25, wearing dark gray suit and cap, others with similar features. License 44ch noted as brown.
