Steamer Corona Blown To Atoms On Mississippi River
The steamer Corona of the Onachira Consolidated line blew apart on the Mississippi near Fall Man opposite Port Hudson. About 40 lives lost with 25 crew and 14 passengers saved. Captain Loni Dee Atwell and others aided survivors. City of St. Louis rescued many as the wreck went down instantly after the explosion. The disaster follows the vessel’s recent return from repairs and is being investigated.
