Moon’s syzygy and perigee raise tides this weekend

The moon will align with the sun and Earth at 6 18 a m CDT on Sunday, creating a syzygy that coincides with its perigee and equatorial position. Tidal effects may lift highs and suppress lows by 2 to 3 inches, depending on storms like Hurricane Lili.

Homeless Men Sue Makers of Bumfights Film

Two homeless men from La Mesa claim they were paid to injure themselves for the Bumfights video and sue the filmmakers for assault and battery and emotional distress. Prosecutors previously charged four filmers with financing felony assaults. the suit names Ryan McPherson Zachary Bubeck Daniel Tanner and Michael Slyman. The case cites seizures and severe injuries from stunts while the defendants deny encouraging violence.

Miss Cleo executives plead no contest in Missouri case

Two Florida men behind the Miss Cleo TV psychic scam pleaded no contest to felony fraud in St. Louis and were sentenced after corporations paid a 50 000 fine. Feder was briefly on probation and released. Stolz received up to two years probation. Prosecutors say the scheme defrauded about 1 billion nationwide with 500 million tied to Miss Cleo ads and reading fees.
