Henry Ambrose alias Manry Leonard, a 24 year old bank messenger for Halle Steiglitz, confessed to forging checks to obtain 360000 in securities from National City Bank. He hid most securities, used a bank stamp die to forge certification, mailed part to Pearl and Co, and claimed the crime started as a bet. Ambrose said he planned to study law and aimed to prove how easy the theft could be. He was held for 85000 and arraigned without counsel, asserting he acted on a bet.
