The dollar fell against four major European currencies as the West German mark surged to record highs. The mark reached 3.78 to the dollar in Frankfurt, about 26 cents, while London and Paris saw gains for the pound and franc amid ongoing turmoil and monetary moves.
Preliminary hearings for James A. Spillman 19 of 1338 Brook and James ages 21 of 1603 W. 15th are set for 10 30 am Oct 17 in Douglas County District Court. Each faces illegal possession of marijuana after police stopped a truck they were driving and found evidence of harvested marijuana. Bond set at 1500 for each.

Milwaukee County Judge F Ryan Duffy Jr ordered arrest of Rev James E Groppi for defying a restraining order and marching into the Wisconsin Capitol He could face probation violation hearings that might revoke two year probation from Feb 12 1968 and trigger six months in the House of Correction Groppi planned a noon Capitol rally as deputies surrounded the building and protests continued at the university campus demanding welfare cuts reversal with today’s events and earlier demonstrations prompting an injunction and state guardsmen deployment.
Shawnee County District Court schedules oral arguments for October 21 on legality of the 1969 Kansas gasoline tax and freeway law. Attorneys from the attorney general, Highway Commission, Wichita, and Sedgwick County discuss motions to intervene and briefs over validity and construction priorities. State Sen Tom Van Sickle represents Southeast Kansas Highway Association and plans to file to intervene.

Carlos J. Nunez age 18 of 736 North J street pled guilty in Douglas County District Court to parole violation and was ordered returned to the Kansas State Industrial Reformatory at Hutchinson. He faces a five to 10 year burglary sentence and may seek another parole hearing in 16 months as he complied with none of the parole conditions.
